Joomla 1.6 SEO recommendations
Written by David Towers

Joomla 1.6 SEOThis blog post is a response to Alledia's open question: What SEO improvements would you like to see in Joomla 1.6?

We love Joomla here at Good Web Practices and are happy to be able to spend some time and energy contributing to the discussions surrounding Joomla 1.6. We would like this post to be considered in the white papers that are being submitted in the Joomla 1.6 development process.

As we are not hardcore coders, we have approached this question from a users point of view. We hope coders and developers will be able to shed more light on the issues we bring up.

A static website or a Joomla website?
Written by David Towers

bed and breakfast website In this post, we will be discussing the advantages of Joomla, a free open source content management system over more conventional static web design techniques using web editors such as Frontpage and Dreamweaver.

We are going to consider this in the context of developing a Bed and Breakfast (B&B) website or an independent Hotel s website.

The majority of websites for B&B s and small Hotels are made up of static html pages, often developed in editors like Dreamweaver and Frontpage, but is this the right choice?

Ski resort using Joomla
Written by David Towers

Les 7 laux ski resort As there is 15 to 20cm of snow forecast tonight in the Alps I decided to look at the ski resorts closest to home to decide where to go snowboarding tomorrow. While looking at the ski resorts websites I realised that Les 7 Laux, a resort I was at last week, is running on Joomla.

Is using Joomla a good platform for a ski resort like Les 7 Laux to use? Are they using Joomla well?

Written by David Towers

joomla-1.5-fantastico.jpgNow that the new version of Joomla is released, you might be asking the question: How am I going to install it?

The easiest option would be to install Joomla 1.5 using the Fantastico script library which makes installing Joomla a breeze. Fantastico is supported by a number of web hosts including Hostmonster (our recommended Joomla host).

Installing Joomla using Fantastico
Written by David Towers

Our first Joomla tutorial couldn't really be any simpler: we are going to show you how to install the content management system Joomla (v1.0.13) on your webhost using Fantastico. Fantastisco is an auto-installer script that is available with certain hosting packages. In this example we are using Hostmonster, but there are plenty of other hosts that offer Fantastico as well.
