Install Joomla 1.5 using fantastico
Written by David Towers

joomla-1.5-fantastico.jpgNow that the new version of Joomla is released, you might be asking the question: How am I going to install it?

The easiest option would be to install Joomla 1.5 using the Fantastico script library which makes installing Joomla a breeze. Fantastico is supported by a number of web hosts including Hostmonster (our recommended Joomla host).

Although installing Joomla 1.5 with Fantastico might be the easiest solution, there is a problem: Fantastico do not currently support the Joomla 1.5 installation, they only support the Joomla 1.13 installation.

When will Fantastico support Joomla 1.5 installation?

We expect it will be possible to install Joomla 1.5 using Fantastico by the end of February 2008 (this date is based upon information provided by Netenberg, the Fantastico developers).

In the mean time what should you do?

You have several options: (a) install Joomla 1.5 manually (b) install Joomla 1.13 using Fantastico or (c) simply wait for Joomla 1.5 to be made available on Fantastico.

We recommend you install Joomla 1.5 manually as it is relatively straight forward. If you dont want to do a manual installation on your server, just wait a few weeks until Fantastico 1.5 is released!

We will be providing an installation guide for Joomla 1.5 using Fantastico as soon as it is released.

If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask in the comments below.

Hi Miz,

Welcome to Good Web Practices!

I'm glad you found this information helpful! It will be great when Fantastico support Joomla 1.5. We've got a website up and running on Joomla 1.5 and really like the fact that its more intuitive than Joomla 1.1x.

Great news everyone,

Fantastico De Luxe 2.10.4 r13 has just been launched today!

In the launch Joomla 1.5 has been added as a new branch, called "Joomla 1.5". And there is now an update for Joomla 1.0.13 to Joomla 1.0.14!

Hi Yo! I asked the same to question to HostMonster support last week and I was told they would be upgrading within a couple of weeks... That means that it should be available in a week or so!

Hi,

I had installed Joomla 1.5.15 via Fantastico Deluxe from my hosting service cpanel. It was working fine and I wanted to try Drupal, so I uninstalled Joomla 1.15.1 and then decided that Drupal was not the choice and tried to reinstall the Joomla 1.5.15 version. It tells me that there are some files such as Administrator, Cache, Components, templates, language and modules that need to be manually removed from the Public_html folder, which I am unable to remove. How do I remove those files and install Joomla 1.5.15 again. Can someone help in this matter?

Cheers
Mukunda.
