People in the Joomla Community using Twitter
Written by David Towers

Joomla people on Twitter

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been 'getting into' Twitter.

I signed up for a Twitter account over 6 month and initially  thought Twitter was a waste of time! But I recently gave it another try and have started to enjoy Twitter because  I've found people on Twitter who share similar interests that I do.

So, today I'm going to share with you a list of over 30 Joomla users, developers and bloggers who are on Twitter!

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a  social networking and micro-blogging service, that allows users to send and read other people's updates (read more about Twitter on  Wikipedia).

Because Twitter is a social network, your enjoyment of it will be determined by who you interact with.

Are the Joomla crowd on Twitter?

Yes, quite a few people from the Joomla crowd are on Twitter!

I've compiled a list*  of people and organisations from the community that I've spotted using Twitter.  Here they are in no particular order:

If you're already using Twitter, you can use this list to interact with other Joomla users by following them.

If you're a Joomla user but don't use Twitter yet, why not sign-up today, follow the guys above and start Twittering!

*We're sure we will have missed people off this list, so please contact us or leave a comment and let us know who we should be add to the list.

What do you think?

Do you think Twitter is a waste of time, or a useful social networking tool?

We just launched CMS Expo here in North America (coming to a continent near you soon) and Twitter went abuzz with commentary about our amazing list of instructors ( a "who's who" list which has many of the folks you listed above).

Twitter is a smash-hit. Great post, David.

Thanks for the comment John. Have seen people in the Joomla Community talking about CMS Expo and have added your Twitter account to the list!

You will find a long list of Joomla heads at http://twittgroups.com/group/joomla and it's growing all the time.

Great list! Thank you for taking the time to create it. It's always nice with a "manually created" list, sort of a quality check making it easier to sort through.

Twittgroups are good stuff as well, I just find them a bit time consuming to go through and with no guarantee of finding quality Tweeple.

Once again, Thanks for publishing this list! smilies/wink.gif

Most people don't get it without trying it.
Once you get it you get addicted, but in a good way smilies/wink.gif

Brian and Barrie I can understand your scepticism, but I do agree with Stian!

A month or so ago, I too was a big Twitter sceptic. But having tried it again I did get into it!

If you haven't already, maybe you should give it a go...

I'm still not completely "into it". I actually prefer Facebook status updates, but maybe that's just me.

David - thanks for the article and the list.

I like Twitter because I can create my own custom "stream of consciousness" with all the topics and people I am interested in.

I am watching news headlines from around the world, I follow industry leaders and various free software communities, CC, commercial entities. Many of my friends and a smattering of funny items, like the Onion headlines. It's up close and personal and very cool.

Twitter needs channels and tags - but I would guess all kinds of mashups and interfaces are coming to help you filter all that content.

Thanks for the article and the link, David! It's an excellent idea, too, because I have been looking for other tweeple to follow.

Cory - You may be interested to find out that you can actually use Twitter to update your facebook status. It's what I do, and makes it easy to kill two birds with one stone. smilies/smiley.gif

"If your competitors are using Twitter then why aren't you?" was a question I asked myself some weeks ago and so I decided it was best to setup a channel for the business and also a personal account to test things out first. And therein lies a good reason: Twitter is another channel for you to communicate as an individual, a group or a business.

Tweeting is a good exercise in microblogging or getting your message out in 140 chars. As a headline writer I'm always optimising headings & titles, Twitter is just a little tighter.

Twitter is a great place for hooking up with other Joomla users that I previously had no connections with and also other random people. I love the chaos element.

I can publish my blog feeds into Twitter, mixing them up with random conversations, links to stories I've found, running commentary etc. It's a real mashup of output.

There are downsides but you can just switch them off... mostly smilies/wink.gif
