Interview with Tim Stiffler-Dean

Tim, first of all, thank you for taking the time to contribute to Good Web Practices, it's great to have you onboard! Thanks for agreeing to answer a few questions now too.

So, please tell us all a bit about yourself! What's your work/educational background?

I have been working in Web Development for about three years now, specifically in the use of Content Management Systems, Forum Software and Blogs. My first job was for a business that I owned called Veritas Studios, where I was the lead Project and Customer Relations Manager. After working with Veritas Studios and gaining some experience in that area, I joined The Next Wave development team where I began to take on a more personal role with the code that made up the websites.

I have been going to Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio for the past three years. During that time I have gone through several majors but have finally set my sights on getting a Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Web Development. If you know the place though and live nearby (or have a chance to visit) you should definitely come check out one of our six choirs that perform throughout the year. I am also the President of the Choral Music Association there, so I'll be glad to answer any questions that you may have about those events as well ;) .

How did you get into blogging?

I became a blogger three years ago under the penname AnotherGuy with a Wordpress.com hosted blog that was all about Windows Vista and the software that could be used with it. I was fascinated with my ability to write tutorials for people who needed to know how to do basic functions on the Operating System. Soon enough though I began also writing about web development, Joomla!, and my personal life as I went on to college for the first time.

When did you start using Joomla?

I began using Joomla! with the release of version 1.0.11. The project was for a small online community of youth groups and Christians that I had been helping lead for sometime, and was extensive enough that it took me several months to reach a point that I believed could be called complete. I had been running the website on free forum software called Suddenlaunch, but decided that year it was time to move on up to something a bit more professional.

Have you used any other CMSs?

I have had extensive use and development time in Wordpress, phpbb3 and SMF as well as both version of Joomla! that have been released thus far (1.0 and 1.5). I am currently in the process of learning more about how to develop using Drupal 6.x and possibly CakePHP (which is not a CMS but can be used to build a custom CMS).

What other websites are you blogging on at the moment?

You can find me at all of these websites pretty regularly:

Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?

I am very excited to be able to be a part of the Good Web Practices Blogging team and hope to add some great topics of discussion to the community. Thanks for having me here!
