HTC Evo 4G overview
HTC Evo 4G is the world s first 4G Android phone and a competitor to the Apple iPhone 4G, with both being released around the same time. While the iPhone will be shipped at a later date, the Evo 4G has already got a great response from customers. Featuring Android 2.1 OS and running on WiMAX, the phone is a must buy for those who want a richer mobile internet experience, with a good design, a fast processor and neat applications. It is let down only by its poor battery life.
Design and Build
The HTC Evo has a 4.3 inch display that looks good and produces crisp and bright images. The screen does not reflect too much ambient light. Despite the bigger screen, the Evo 4G is not heavy to carry around. In fact, the design is quite slim and elegant.
The phone has robust build quality and it feels solid in your hands. A novel feature is the kickstand, which allows you to conveniently watch videos from a better viewing angle. One issue is that the rear camera protrudes a little and when you place the phone on a table, it rests on the camera lens.
The front buttons are sensitive to touch. There is a lock button on the top and toggle buttons at the bottom right of the phone.

Battery
The battery life of the HTC Evo is less than satisfactory. The 1500mAh battery runs out after five hours of talk time. With 4G on, it wouldn't last you more than a day even if it s idle. Things don't get much better even when WiFi, 4G and GPS are turned off. But as usual, how you use the phone will determine how soon it is drained, and you can look for a few tips to extend the phone s battery life.
Camera
The HTC Evo 4G comes with a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a high definition video camcorder. The pictures come out pretty impressive with good auto focusing and very little lag times. In fact, this is one of the fastest mobile phone cameras around. The video camera is equally good, with a nice playback quality.
Software
The Evo 4G runs on Android 2.1 OS and comes with many widgets like weather, clock and calendar. You can now integrate networking sites with your contact book. Facebook, Google, and Twitter contacts can all be connected and the phone offers many customizable options to access those contacts. The phone is really fast, thanks to its 1GHz processor, and you will have no lag problems with most applications.
HTC Evo s two novel applications are Qik and Hotspot. Qik lets you stream and share videos straight to the internet. Hotspot makes the phone act like a WiFi hotspot, and it can support up to eight devices.
Conclusion
HTC Evo 4G is a high-end Android phone from HTC. There are no major complaints in any aspect, except for battery life, which will be a disappointment to a lot of users. The big screen, Android 2.1 OS, and 4G speeds make the phone a powerful multimedia device. It is a good value for money proposition for those who like to stay on the cutting edge of technology.
