Right from classic games like Super Mario to the latest Wii Sports Resort and racing games, the Nintendo Wii offers a wide array games ensuring total family entertainment.

There is more to Wii than plain gaming because the device actively connects to the Internet and updates itself intelligently. The device also allows Wi-Fi and internet support for multiplayer and multi-location gaming. A host of accessories available through the Wii website and dealers, the next frontier of gaming arrives at your living room.

What is in the Nintendo Wii box?

Wii console

Nintendo Wii ConsoleDressed in a sleek white casing, the Wii console is among the most compact gaming console designs. The console can be kept horizontally or mounted vertically with the console stand provided in the package.

Wii sensor bar

Nintendo Wii Sensor BarThe sensor bar contains two infra red marker light beams that helps detect movements and distance of Wii controllers from the television. The sensor works pretty accurately for distances in the range of 6-10 feet and supports up to 4 controllers for multi-gaming delight.

Wii remote

Nintendo Wii remoteThe Wii Remote is one of the main player controls that wirelessly interfaces with the console through the sensor bar. The remote has standard keys that help you play classic games and use certain controls.

The key feature of the remote, which is also a big differentiator of the Wii system, is the motion sensors within the remote. The motion sensing ability of the remote help you play a game of golf or tennis with actual physical movement of your arms simulating movement of the golf club or the tennis racket. This gives an amazing realistic gaming experience.

The nunchuck

Nintendo Wii NunchuckNunchuck is an additional control that couples with the Wii Remote for additional functions such as passing the ball in a game of soccer. The Nunchuck is designed to fit snugly in your fist and is equipped with two buttons and a control stick.

Wii Sports disc

Nintendo Wii boxBy default, the Nintendo Wii comes with a bundled Wii Sports disc that includes tennis, golf, baseball, bowling and boxing. The games support up to 4 players.

Standard accessories in the package include a Wii AC adapter and a Wii AV cable that helps it to power-up and connect to your television.

Getting started

Setting up the Wii is a simple two step process. You just need to connect the AC adapter and the Wii Sensor Bar to the Wii console. The AC adapter needs to be connected to a wall outlet and the Sensor Bar needs to be kept atop or alongside the television facing the gamers. The only technical part about the whole setup is a onetime process to get the system hooked to your wireless internet connection. Even this is fairly simplified through a walk-through wizard.

Online capabilities

The Wii is more than a standalone gaming device within your four walls. It can connect to the Internet and make you a part of an active community, all of them engaged in Wii gaming. To do this, Wii allows you to browse and subscribe to a large number of Wii Channels. You can befriend other users and be a part of their community by exchanging your Wii Friend Code that is provided in the Wiis system menu. Both sides need to enter the opposite friends code in their respective system and they are ready to play together.

To personalize gaming experience further, users can log on to the Mii Channel, and don a customized animated avatar termed as Mii that can be created in a matter of clicks. There are also channels that allow you to browse through news and even edit and share photographs.

Conclusion

The games, however, are less complicated than those designed for hard core gamers; but, that is what makes this device lovable by all members of the family.
